Kim finds his red bull on a green field. It is the flag of a group of Irish troops in the British army. They remember his father, and given Kim’s special language skills and knowledge of the local culture, and his brightness, this young boy becomes an unlikely British spy.

The novel depicts the world of a half-Irish white boy finding his way amid the many religious, cultural, and political factions vying for power in India at the turn of the 20th century. Note that, though the main character is a young boy age 11 or 12, it's a stretch to call Kim a children's book.5/5.

Kim is capable of striking descriptions, but for the most part, she doesn’t take any risks. Still, “Miracle Creek” is a brave novel that challenges assumptions of : Krys Lee. Kim, Kipling's extraordinarily topical masterpiece, has one of the most brilliant openings in this series: "He sat, in defiance of municipal orders, astride the gun Zam-Zammah on her brick platform.
